Searching

DNA HelixFor those readers that are searching for their birth parents, or those thinking of searching, it is helpful to “get your mind right” as you go through the process. Many searches last for years, some (like my own) last for decades. It’s easy to get discouraged when you hit a brick wall in your efforts, but if you are determined you will be rewarded on some level. Celebrate the small victories but don’t dwell on the little setbacks. DNA and the Internet can be your best ally in this endeavor, so it’s best to become knowledgeable about both subjects.

Some Internet “search engines” are better than others, and whichever one you choose is mostly a matter of personal preference. If you don’t care to have your searches followed and tracked, I suggest you try www.duckduckgo.com – they don’t track you or collect personal information, and do not drive advertising toward you. Of course, you can use all the usual search engines as well, but if want to “purify” your search results a bit, I suggest you try DuckDuckGo.

Do you get tired of taking notes on all this “stuff” ? I also suggest a cool (and free) application called “Evernote” (link). I have come to depend on it for jotting down little notes to myself, but it will also capture entire web pages or snippets of articles you want to save for later reference. You can thank me later !

Lastly, NEVER GIVE UP SEARCHING ! We wish you all the best in your efforts.
